The original Roman road that once ran all the way to Brindisi still has stretches of its actual ancient paving, flanked by umbrella pines, aqueduct arches and tombs that lined the route because burial inside the city walls was forbidden. The cobbles are rough enough that an e-bike's assist genuinely earns its keep over a standard rental.
